Vintage Videos: Futuristic Fashion Predictions

Futuristic fashion predictions from the 1930's of what we'd be wearing in 2000. I actually really love the jumpsuit and cantilever heels, those could easily be worn today. I bet that "electric belt to adapt the body to climatic changes" would sell like hotcakes to the menopause set. And don't we wish all men carried around "candy for cuties"?

Vintage Video: New Look 1954

The Spring 1954 Collection of designer Jacques Fath.

Also check out Jacques Fath 1956 in French.

More on Jacques Fath from The Vintage Fashion Guild Label Resource:
(1912-1954) Jacques Fath opened his couture design house in Paris in 1937. At first, his business was very small, his first collection has only 20 designs, but his soon became one of the most popular houses in Paris. He managed to stay open throughout most of WWII, and after the war his business continued to grow.

In 1949, Fath signed a agreement with American manufacturer Joseph Halpert, to produce two ready-to-wear collections a year. This was one of the first such agreements between a couturier and a ready-to-wear firm.

Fath was fond of the hourglass look, and his designs often hugged the body in a flattering way. He loved pleats and low necklines,

Fath died in 1954, and his wife kept the house going until 1957. It was reopened in 1996, and was at first designed by Tom van Lingen, and in 1997, by Elena Nazaroff. Today the line is designed by Lizzie Disney.

Vintage Video: My Own Personal Vintage

About a week ago my father called me to to tell me he found a few items that he thought I'd want. One of them being a receipt for the Hotel Seville he kept from May 1974. Now why would I want a hotel receipt from May of 1974?

Why it was from the night I was conceived! Here's a video for their catchy commercial in the 70's.

Video Thursday: Brooklyn Girl

I'm born and raised in Brooklyn NY and this past Summer it was the last hurrah of Astroland at Coney Island. Astroland was a big part of the boardwalks rides and fun. It's sad to see it go. Although thankfully a landmark, The Cyclone will live forever!

This great video shows Coney Island fun and fashions in the 1940's.

Video Thursday: Leathuh

Fashion Parade of 1956 in leather! This one goes out to Stella Zotis of Project Runway. ;)

This video showcases exquisite Bonnie Cashin (the original designing woman of 'leathuh'!) designs for Phillip Sims. I *love* that jacket with windowpane lining and dress to match - sublime!

Read more about the history of Bonnie Cashin at the Vintage Fashion Guild's Label Resource.
