Vintage Birthday: Susan Peters

When researching for vintage birthdays, sometimes I come across people I've never heard of and I delve a little deeper into the backgrounds of these lost actors, models or musicians. Susan Peters story was especially heartbreaking.

Susan Peters was an actress in the 40's who earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination but had a tragic accident while duck hunting when a rifle accidentally discharged and the bullet lodged in her spinal cord leaving her permanently paralyzed from the waist down. She tried to continue her career in a wheelchair, unsuccessfully. Her and her husband split in 1948 and in 1952 she died at the young age of 31 from complications of anorexia.
